That Day in Korea guide: what one page holds and how to use it
We say first where each value comes from and how far to trust it. The sample date is March 3, 1998.
What this site does
Pick a date and one page gathers Seoul's temperatures for that day, the lunar date and moon phase, and the list of Assembly sessions. The address is the date itself, for example /1998-03-03.
It is made for a parent building a first-birthday card, or for an adult looking up the day they were born.
Values come only from official sources. If we could not get a day, the card appears blank.
How to use it
On the home page, pick a date and press Show that day. Typing the date into the address bar opens the same page.
Under Keep it as a card, Save as image downloads one card. Copy text and link makes a sentence to paste into a message.
Use Previous day and Next day to move around, or browse by year, then month.
Typing only the month, like /1998-03, or only the year, like /1998, opens a list page. Pressing a date in the list opens that day.
Go pick a dateWhere each card comes from, and its limits
Weather is the Seoul station in the Korea Meteorological Administration's ASOS daily data. Low, high and mean temperatures and rainfall appear as recorded. It is one city, so it can differ from where you were born.
The moon card computes the lunar date from a conversion table and estimates the phase from it. Around day 1 the moon is not visible, and around day 15 it is full. It is not timed to the hour, so it can be off by about a day.
The Assembly card takes the names of sessions held that day from the Open National Assembly Information list. A blank card does not mean no session was held. It may mean we could not load it.
We do not reproduce newspaper text. The copyright belongs to the papers, so we only link to Naver Newslibrary.
Using it for a first-birthday card
Open the page for the baby's birth date and save the image. It becomes a card with the weather and lunar date. Print it or attach it to an invitation.
The card holds the same values as the screen. A blank card is left out of the image too.
A small footer carries this site's address and Gwiraedang's. Crop the image if you want it gone.
Looking further
To see other days in the same month, use the month link at the bottom of the page. To skim a year, choose a month from the year page.
For the day's newspapers, enter the same year, month and day in Naver Newslibrary.
A reading that needs the birth hour is Saju, and Gwiraedang does it. This site does not interpret Saju.
Where people get stuck
A card is blank. We have not loaded data for that date. We never fill a value with a guess.
A date will not open. Pages run from January 1, 1960 up to yesterday. Today stays closed because its readings are not complete until the day ends.
The saved image looks soft. The card is 1080 pixels wide. For larger print, edit it separately.
If the date box does not open a calendar in your browser, type the date as 1998-03-03. The same form works in the address bar.
